Greenpeace lays foundation of micro-grid project in Bihar village


PATNA: Greenpeace India on Saturday laid the foundation for its revolutionary rural electrification micro-grid project at the Dharnai Village in Jahanabad district of Bihar. The model for this project will be based on an innovative smart solar based technology.

Earlier on September 4, 2013, Greenpeace had announced the launch of this project Co-implemented with Centre for Environment and Energy Development, the micro grid will involve about 100 kilowatts of solar panels that will supply affordable, sustainable and round the clock electricity to 350 households in Dharnai.

The micro grid, targeted to become operational by early next year, is being installed to showcase that the real solution for rural electrification lies in decentralized renewable energy.

Present at the event and laying the foundation stone for the event DM of Jehanabad Md Sohail, said, "This is the kind of business model & infrastructure where future of energy investment lies which will not only facilitate people's access to modern energy resources but also in building infrastructure owned and controlled by people".

BREDA director Dayanidhan Pandey said, "This decentralized energy delivery system is not just about a couple of lights and a fan for a few hours. It will be a game changer for rural electrification in Biharcatering to the energy ambitions of the people and galvanizing the rural economy".
