Chandigarh administration gave a rude New Year shock to its residents by proposing an electricity rate hike of 50%. This proposed hike comes on the heels of 27% hike enforced about six months back. The reason or logic behind this decision is simply economic as per administration. But the reality is far from it and it is a valiant effort by the government to cover up its own management inefficiency in distribution and loss of power through thefts. As per experts distribution and other power losses amount to more than 40% of total power being made available to the Union Territory. We, the citizens of Chandigarh do not want any subsidy, but at the same time do not wish to pay for the department's inefficiency and rulers apathy in controlling theft.
