Finally the election results of five Indian states are before us and these results have been quite a rude shock to the two main national parties of India, namely the Congress and the BJP and a big surprise for Mulayam Singh's Samajwadi Party. On one side it has brought out the maturity of Indian voter, particularly his intolerance to corruption and high handedness of the mighty and powerful of the ruling polity. At the same time it shows that still the voter is highly gullible and gets fooled by the rhetoric of false promises and paltry doles in the form of free rations, small job reservations etc. The voter is still not fighting for his right to get high quality education, skill enhancement enabling him to increase his earnings and bear the fruits of development and increased GDP.
This will certainly give a wrong message to the polity of all hues and colours and all of them will go all out for selling our national assets to garner more money and wastefully employing the government's budget kitty for distribution of freebies and doles, good politics as per them. Good Governance and Good Economics are definitely going to take the back seat as both attack the problem of corruption, black money, freebies, doles, discretions and discretionary quotas etc and these features are the back bone of getting into power and ensuring it in future. After all it is only a few dozen people who become part of the government who get financial compensation and perks legally. The others i.e. a few lakhs of powerful active cadres of political parties who ensure votes during elections have to be ensured a big chunk of loot through one or more of the methods described above. The commoner is left alone to rot and blame his destiny for his miseries.
